Christopher Ograin, Ph.D. is a Teaching Professor with a joint position in the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Education. He is the Director of the UCSB Mathematics Project, a professional development program for in-service K-12 mathematics teachers. He is also a member of CalTeach which encourages and supports undergraduates pursing careers in K-12 mathematics & science teaching.
Professor Ograin's work at UCSB centers around mathematics education. In the Department of Mathematics he works with mathematics majors earning the BA with Concentration in High School Teaching. To be effective secondary school teachers, these students must have a solid background in high level mathematics content, and Professor Ograin teaches many courses in this major. As a part of the CalTeach program, Professor Ograin works with undergraduates to understand effective models for teaching and learning. As the Director of the UCSB Mathematics Project, he develops workshops for local K-12 teachers looking to improve their classroom practice.
Christopher Ograin earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics at the University of California, Irvine in 2010. In graduate school he studied under Professor John Lowengrub, and in his dissertation he analyzed a geometric evolution equation for modeling the behavior of anisotropic thin films.
